Cure for Leprosy

Fortunately, however, now we have cure for Leprosy. It can be cured either with antibiotics, anti-inflammatory drugs, or with steroids such as prednisone.  It costs less than $25 to provide medication to a leprosy patient.
However, people are reluctant to come to clinics for diagnosis and treatment because of the social stigma attached to this dreaded disease. Some countries actually have laws that restrict leprosy patients to remote areas, wrongfully assuming that the disease is easily contagious and incurable. Some countries still have laws that regard leprosy as grounds for divorce.

The sooner a patient is treated after the diagnosis of the disease, the less harm the disease does. The longer the treatment is delayed, the greater the impact it has emotionally and physically on the individual. In some cases, delayed treatment can lead to blindness and even loss of hands and feet.

What is leprosy?
Leprosy is a disease caused by Myobacterium leprae. One of the world’s oldest diseases, leprosy affects the skin and, if untreated, can eventually lead to loss of limbs and blindness.  Even today, nearly a quarter of a million people are diagnosed with this disease every year.

An enthralling journey through an astonishing life, from the frozen back roads of Alaska to the sunny climes of Southern California, Hal Roach made the quintessential American journey from a penniless nobody to the heart of american popular culture. Brash and bold, creative and sensitive, Hal Roach strode like a real-life Zelig through the early years of Hollywood, seemingly knowing everybody and working with most of them, creating some of the most enduring characters in all of the world cinema. A must-read for anybody interested in the history of the American film industry.
